Palisades Toastmasters Club President Julian Hernandez, DTM; Area 53 Governor Luz Guzman, ACB; Palisades Toastmaster Club Secretary and Treasurer Carla Hernandez, CC at the Club Officers training hosted by FRX Networkers on Wednesday, January 27, 2010

The meeting’s theme last Thursday, February 4th was about Leadership Traininig. All the table topics questions and prepared speeches focused on the training that our Toastmasters club provide its members from roles taken at the meeting to club officers position for a long-term period.

Four club officers attended training last summer and four clubs officers just attended training this current period. Thanks to Julian Hernandez, Selena Balecha, Carla Hernandez and Samir Shah for their contribution to this important goal. This is the first time the  club achieves that goal in 4 years. The best is yet to come!

The club changed its meeting day from Thursday to Tuesday and the time from 7:30 pm to 7:15 p.m. Therefore, the next meeting is tomorrow Tuesday, February 9 at 7:15 p.m. The theme will be St. Valentine’s Day. Hope you can join us.

Navigating Destiny

As a new calendar year begins we reflect on our dreams.  “..Every accomplishment we achieve first starts as a dream. Our dream then becomes a goal. With diligence, effort, the support of others and belief in ourselves, our goals become a reality”  (Gary Schmidt, DTM, International President, Toastmaster magazine January 2010).

It’s that time of the year again. Time to make those New Year’s Resolutions. Setting goals is a great strategy for success. Palisades Toastmasters club has held the two first meetings of this new decade. It  is in the mid fiscal year of its goals. What are they? Where does it stand? Come to the next gathering and find out what the members have to say.  During the table topics session you will be giving an opportunity to talk about your own personal goals.

When:  Thursday, January 21 at 7:30 pm

Where:  Burger King,  3501 Bergenline Ave. 2nd Floor Party Room, Union City, NJ 07087

RSVP: Palisades.TM@gmail.com or 201.334.2713

See you there!

Let’s Talk Turkey!

Frankly, Palisades Toastmasters Club will not be rebuilt in a few months.  But, since meetings resumed last March of this year the Club achieved Distinguished Club status in three months. By June, the end of the fiscal year, the club was Distinguished again after more than 3 years.

A lot has been happening in the last three months or so. Let’s get down to the basics facts of the matter:

  • We had two new members last September: Selena Balecha and Leticia Bido.
  • Last month we resumed the indoor meetings every Thursday once again at Burger King in Union City.
  • Thanks to Leticia, the club secured the party room in the second floor of Burger King to conduct our meetings.
  • We’ve had fun and educational meetings with themes such as Fire Prevention, Columbus Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving.
  • We have one new member this month: Fausto Molina.
  • Selena has expressed that she is very grateful to the club for she is now more confident doing her presentations at work.
  • Next month the club will elect new officers for the period January to June 2010.

Stay tuned for the best is yet to come!

There will be no meeting this Thursday, November 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The next meeting will be next Thursday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Burger King, 3501 Bergenline Ave., Union City, NJ.

There are many things one is thankful for during this holiday.  Palisades Toastmasters Club is very thankful to each and every one of you who continue to contribute to the success of the club.

Have a nice Thanksgiving!

National Night Out and Smedley Award Campaign

825

Palisades Toastmasters Club had a table (which we shared with our sister club Toastmasters en Español) at the National Night Out Against Crime last Tuesday, August 4 in New York Ave about 26th St. in Union City. Thanks to all the people that stopped by to inquired about our organization.  The club was really excited to be part of this event which gave us the opportunity to launch the Smedley Award Campaign.

SmedleyFund

It all began in 1924. Dr. Ralph Smedley invited a few men to meet in the Santa Ana, California YMCA where he conducted the first meeting of what would eventually evolve into Toastmasters International. One person initiated a program that would go on to affect millions of people.

The next meeting will be Thursday, August 13 at Ellsworth Park located at New York Ave. and 24th St. The theme will be  Travel.
